Director of the SUPA Graduate School
We seek a dynamic, imaginative individual with the enthusiasm and drive to be the first Director of the SUPA Graduate School.
SUPA (Scottish Universities Physics Alliance) is an alliance of six universities aimed at establishing Physics in Scotland as a world leading force by pooling of resources and coherent planning of research strategy. The formation of SUPA has been boosted by a £14M research investment programme funded by the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council (SHEFC), the Office of Science and Technology (OST) and the participating universities.
The Graduate School constitutes both a key integrating component of the Alliance and a major structural change in the provision of advanced and coordinated research training in Scotland. The School will develop and deliver advanced training and course materials to research students across Scotland using both traditional lecture-based delivery and evolving e-learning approaches.
The Director will manage and develop the School, providing strategic leadership, management and vision as well as day-to-day coordination. An understanding of and enthusiasm for modern Higher Educational practice (including e-learning) would be highly advantageous.
Salary will be at a competitive level for such a position, and the post can be held at any one of the six SUPA Universities. The appointment will be for four years in the first instance.
Applications are being handled by the University of Edinburgh on behalf of the Alliance.
Fixed term: 4 years
