SUPA TEOPS Advanced Fellowship Position (Glasgow)
Applications are invited for an Advanced Fellowship funded through the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA) to be held in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow. The Fellow will join a new Scottish collaboration of highly active research groups targeted at the development of leading-edge technology for observational astronomy, gravitational wave detection, and particle physics experiment. This collaboration - TEOPS - links the Institute for Gravitational Research and the Particle Physics Research Group at the University of Glasgow, with the UK Astronomy Technology Centre (ATC) and the Institute for Astronomy in Edinburgh and is a key initiative within SUPA.
We seek high-calibre candidates with experience of mechanical and/or electronic aspects of R&D for detectors and instrumentation including the appropriate state-of-the-art hardware and design and modelling tools. There is considerable scope for innovation in the development of novel devices and systems, with candidates expected to show how they can use the opportunities of this joint initiative to develop new technologies of great benefit to the science goals of the partners.
The post is funded for 4 years and is to start on October 1st 2005, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Glasgow is a member of the Scottish Universities Physics Alliance (SUPA, http://www.supa.ac.uk), a new trans-institutional alliance that creates a common strategy for physics research across Scotland. Funded by Government and the six participant Universities, it has £14M ($25M) over four years to create world-leading research initiatives, and a Scotland-wide Graduate School. A joint theme in Astro-Space Physics is being carried forward with our colleagues in Edinburgh and St Andrews.
